IES holds career counseling and stream selection session for senior students

Indian Education School, Kuwait under the guidance of Chairman Mr. N.K. Ramachandran Menon and Principal Mr. T. Premkumar remains committed to helping every learner tread their own path towards the future. In pursuit of the same, the school organized a session on Stream Selection and Career Counseling for the students and parents of Class IX & X on December 5, 2020.

The session coordinated by the School Counselor Ms. Anju Jacob was led by Dr. Rajeswari, Dean Academics, Research expertise in Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence at Acharya Institute, Bengaluru. 

The session covered various facets of career choice, and its determining factors such as aptitude and interest, availability of opportunity, and inherent potential. 

Dr. Rajeswari urged the students to believe in their strengths and follow their passion, she also threw light on the various skills required for pursuing a particular career, and how a combination of such skills is essential for success in their chosen fields. 

Further on, the students were introduced to the changing scenario in the Higher Education Sector with special emphasis on the opportunities and scope available under different streams (Science, Commerce & Humanities).

The School Counselor updated the parents on the subject combination offered at Indian Education School.  Dr. Rajeshwari advised the students to take an aptitude test that would allow them to know their personal strengths, weaknesses, skills, and intelligence in different fields. She quoted a few examples like, a student who keeps abreast of the latest scientific discoveries and inventions may want to take up the science stream. Similarly, a student who has grown up in a family that owns a business may want to take up the Commerce stream. Likewise, a student who is creative and imaginative and enjoys writing may take up the humanities stream.

She emphasized the importance of choosing a stream in which one’s interest lies so that the students are able to carve a niche for themselves in a career that is professionally rewarding and satisfying. 

Finally, the questions pertaining to Engineering, Pharma, MBA, Psychology, Commerce, Fashion Designing, AI, Management, Technology, Dance, and Music were answered by the resource person to the best satisfaction of the students and parents who thanked the school for organizing an extremely useful session. 

It was indeed an enriching experience, for those who were still indecisive about deciding their streams and careers.
