Wait before you buy

Historical high fares for one way tickets from India to Kuwait have put a damper on the return of Indian nationals from India to Kuwait.

Fares ranging from KD 700 to KD 850 from Indian destinations of Mumbai, Kochi, Hyderabad and Chennai we being quoted by Kuwait carriers during the first two weeks of September for one-way return flights after the DGCA announced the operation of direct flights from India yesterday.

Indian carriers are being alloted a capacity of around 2800 passengers weekly as are both Kuwaiti carriers Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways bringing the total in bound number of Indian arrivals to almost 5,600 passengers.

Indian carriers are yet to announce their fares but reliable airline sources told The Times Kuwait that the price is not expected to be so steep and would probably be half the price what Kuwait carriers are quoting.

One travel agent told The Times Kuwait that some airlines are trying to make the most of the demand by passengers to return by hiking prices to such an astronomical level never seen before. They added that prices are bound to level off and taking advantage of such a situation is not in the best interest of either the market or the industry in case they want to cover the losses they faced in the past. The advised to wait for prices to come to more reasonable levels before choosing to fly in.

Direct commercial passenger flights from India have been suspended for almost 18 months and the impact is now being felt both on fares and the labour market where prices have sky rocketed due to the high demand since Kuwait is returning back to normalcy.
