Minister of Health Dr. Basel Al-Sabah has been asked by lawmaker Abdullah Al-Kandari to provide detailed information on a medical case involving a woman who suffered serious damage to her womb after an operation following an incomplete miscarriage.
The woman reportedly was admitted to the Maternity Hospital in Sabah Health District on 2 September after she suffered an incomplete miscarriage. Apparently, it took the doctors two days to diagnose and decide on taking her to the operation theater.
After the operation, which took over four and a half hours, the doctor informed the patient’s husband that her womb had been perforated in two places and this would limit the chance of her getting pregnant again.
The lawmaker called for an explanation from the minister on why it took the doctors two days to decide to operate, why the husband was not consulted before performing the operation on his wife, and why the doctors revealed that there were only two perforations while the medical report shows there were four.
The parliamentarian also demanded to know the names and qualifications of the doctor or doctors who participated in the operation, the medical procedures are undertaken on the women and if a second opinion had been sought before the operation was performed.
