GTD presses into service 300 patrol cars with ‘new look’

The General Traffic Department in anticipation of the new Gregorian year has pressed into service its new patrols with a ‘New Look’, which distinguishes these patrol cars from other sectors of the Ministry of Interior.

The Director of the General Traffic Department, Major General Youssef Al-Khadda, announced the introduction of about 300 traffic patrols, in their new look, after changing their color from cyan to yellow, to make them distinct from the patrols of other sectors in the Ministry of Interior, reports a local Arabic daily.

Al-Khadda said the “the General Traffic Department is about to launch a new tender for vehicles equipped with the best technologies and cameras, to target vehicles that are parked in the ‘No Parking’ areas, or in parking spaces allotted for people with special needs, in markets, complexes, or government institutions.’

The task of the patrol car will be to photograph the vehicle and the image is then uploaded onto the traffic system to record the violation directly, to ensure that the rights of the violator and the administration are protected. This is in addition to ensure drivers do not stop in prohibited areas to ensure normal traffic flow and eliminate congestion on roads.

In another context, Al-Khadda revealed the GTD will continue to receive again citizens and residents every Tuesday evening, from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening, so that transactions can be completed and those with complaints and grievances will be received, based on the instructions issued by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid.

He added, “The General Traffic Department has completed preparations for the New Year’s holiday, by distributing 600 security men and 400 traffic patrols, which will cover all governorates, regions, and crowded places that witness heavy traffic. Their task will be to regulate traffic and ensure that roads are not blocked.”
