Govt sector records 78% decrease in expatriate workers

The number of new expatriate employees in the government sector decreased to 70% during the current year, compared to 4 years ago. The percentage of Kuwaiti employees has reached 80%, according to the latest report issued by the Central Administration for Statistics.

The report showed that the total number of newcomers who joined government institutions until the first half of this year was only 1,553 unlike previous year with the exception of 2020 then the Corona pandemic suspended much of the work for long periods.

The report indicated that 80% of government sector employment is national, with a total of 366,238 Kuwaitis, corresponding to 91,000 residents, most of whom work in service jobs, mostly in education or health sectors.

The results of the report indicated that the volume of employment in 16 state-owned companies (full ownership) is 29,170 workers of whom Kuwaitis represent 70.7%.

It was noted that 73.1% of the total workers are in three government companies — the Kuwait Oil Company, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company.
