Since the end of the National Assembly session for retirees last Thursday, the government has been working to prepare other scenarios to complement what was proposed, to get out of the impasse in which it finds itself in after the parliamentary attack and accusing it of backtracking on what it had announced about distributing part of the profits of the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) to retirees.

Informed sources told a local Arabic daily that those concerned with the case –the government apparatus — are working to find a way out of the embarrassing situation, and to prove that the government stands on the side of the retirees and not the opposite, pointing out that there is a tendency to diversify the ‘reward’ for this category, in parallel with the parliamentary recommendation to separate a grant of 3,000 dinars for the government project to amend the Insurance Law.

The sources stated that the government is open to all scenarios, and there is more than one option on the Cabinet table to be discussed during its meeting tomorrow, especially in terms of meeting some demands of retirees, such as reducing the value of the monthly installments for the ‘good loan’ from the current 15 percent, and other things; perceptions in which the government’s vision will become clear after the meeting of the Council.

Yesterday evening, dozens of retirees organized a sit-in at the Al-Erada Square to protest against the failure of the government and the National Assembly to reach an agreed formula.

The parliamentary sources told Al-Rai “the government has no choice but to study the recommendation seriously, to get out of the embarrassing situation that it finds itself, especially since the Minister of Finance confirmed before Thursday’s session that the government, does not oppose re-examining the parliamentary recommendation again.”

The sources suggested that “the government will announce a mechanism for disbursing the retirees’ grant soon, especially since there is a pressing resentment that requires more flexibility, in light of the presence of an interrogation awaiting the Prime Minister on March 29,” noting that “the government can defuse the growing congestion, by announcing the distribution of the grant.”

While MP Dr. Hisham Al-Saleh confirmed told the daily that disbursing the retirees’ stipend has become a necessity that cannot be delayed, MP Dr. Abdullah Al-Tariji made it clear that 3,000 dinars grant is not an opportunity for procrastination and profit, while MP Khalil Al-Saleh demanded that the Finance Committee issue a report on retirees grant away from the controversial amendments to the Insurance Law.
