Government mulling shifting curfew timings from 6pm to 4 am

Health authorities are studying a request to change the partial curfew period for the second stage from 9 pm to 6 am, to instead start from 6pm and end at 4 am. The reason being that allowing the curfew until 9 pm would likely lead to increase in family and social gatherings, especially in residential areas, which raises the risk of infections and the spread of the virus. Therefore, it would be a better option according to health expertise to lift the ban earlier in the morning.

A daily reported that the high number of coronavirus infections among Kuwaiti citizens in recent days for not adhering to health guidelines may push the transition of the second stage to a later date. The Council of Ministers is considering implementing the recommendations from the supreme ministerial committee in charge of evaluating the daily reports on coronavirus infections and its spread during the first stage as part of its gradual return to normalcy plan.

Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled stressed that five conditions must be met to contain the coronavirus spread, before moving to the second stage.

The health authorities are planning to present a comprehensive evaluation in the first stage, including the rate of infections in their areas, especially those under lockdown before a decision will be taken for lifting the lockdown or implementing the measure in other areas. This procedure is based on health data gathered by reviewing the global handling of the coronavirus developments amidst fears of second wave of the coronavirus in a number of countries.
