Government moves to control prices of commodities

The Minister of Social Affairs and Community Development Mubarak Al-Aro, as a government step to control the prices of commodities, has issued a decision to allow the Federation of Agricultural Productive and Livestock Cooperative Societies to reopen sales outlets.

The assistant undersecretary for the cooperatives sector in the ministry, Hiyam Al-Khudair, according to a local Arabic daily, said “requests were submitted to the ministry by the union to return the basic system as it was before 2013, with the aim of opening sales outlets and dealing comfortably in sales to limit the rise in prices.”

The decision stipulates the addition of two new clauses to the objectives of the Union contained in Article 5 of 2013, which are:

1 – Carrying out common services such as local and external purchases, establishing production units and the subsequent support activities, which result in reducing expenses and raising the level of services for members of cooperatives.

2 – Work to reduce price manipulation of goods in order to protect the consumer and work to unify their prices in member coops and their branches.
