Nachom-ia Kumpasar (Let’s Dance To The Beat) a Konkani movie is yet another example of the marvelous melodies that strike the chords of one’s heart. The much awaited movie was released in Kuwait on the 29th of May at the American International School to a packed auditorium of eager film afficianados.
Launching the movie Carmo Santos, Honorary President of the Goan Cultural Centre, Kuwait and the man behind the screening of the movie in Kuwait, welcomed the audience and thanked them for their support in making this screening possible.
The story based on the tragic love story of one of Bombay’s finest crooner Lorna Cordeiro and her maestro, the late Chris Perry had the packed audience glued to their seats sometimes foot tapping to the melodies and sometimes sobbing to the tragedy. The roller coaster emotional ride is something the movie has been successful in accomplishing and touching the nerve of every Goan, known for their easy going and fun loving nature.
Director Bardroy Barretto has been able to achieve several successes in the process the foremost of giving a new lease of life to Goan film industry by bringing it onto an international stage. Since the movie’s release in November last year it has been playing to packed houses in Goa and has won two national awards for Best Konkani Film and Best Production Design at the 62nd National Film awards New Delhi.
The much talked about movie has taken the Goan film industry by storm and the director has been able to convey the story of Goan musicians in a simple and clear message, the disheartening reality of music in Goa where most Indian music artists during the era of the 60s and 70s excelled thanks to Goan musicians. The tragedy is that for years, Goans have stood back stage and the lime light was taken by others.
The movie that took almost three years in the making and with help from several like-minded Goans living abroad and back home premiered first in Doha, Qatar and was subsequently released in Goa in December 2014.
Both the hero and heroine Vijay Maurya and Palomi Gosh although not Goan perform flawlessly in their roles, highlighting the emotional and passionate journey of the characters onscreen.
During the intermission Carmo Santos, gave away bouquets of flowers to the supporters of the screening as well as honoring Director Barretto for his efforts., In his message to the gathering Carmo said,” We are proud of all those involved in the creative production of the film, which has enhanced and kindled more interest in our mother tongue Konkani; now spread to different parts of the world, to Kuwait and the Gulf region”.
He was extremely pleased with the response to the show. “It was very good, the crowd was satisfied and went back home smiling. There were no problems as we had a decent crowd and I am grateful to Kuwait for granting us the license to screen the film.” he said.
The two day screening was a wonderful, memorable and definitely unforgettable event that brought back nostalgic memories while entertaining and enlightening young Goans on some of their past heritage.
