A government source said the tenure of the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, due to expire in February 2023 has not been renewed.
The source pointed out that Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Al-Sabah was informed of the decision not to renew the tenure by the GCC foreign ministers, reports a local Arabic daily.
The source indicated, however, that position will continue to be held by Kuwait, and the name of the new candidate to succeed Al-Harf is in the hands of the political leadership.
