Fires devoured 17 million dinars in first half of 2023

The financial losses emanating from fire accidents that the country witnessed during the first half of 2023 are estimated at about 17 million dinars.

Public Relations and Media Department of the Directorate-General of Fire Department (DGFD) sources told Al-Qabas that the country witnessed 2,108 fires that broke out from January 1 to June 30, an increase of 3% over the same period last year.

The sources explained that the material cost of losses in residential places amounted to 531 thousand dinars, while the material cost of losses in non-residential places, such as factories, plots, etc., amounted to more than 14 million dinars, and the financial cost of land transport losses amounted to 1.6 million dinars, and the rest of the money was lost due to other fires.

The sources indicated 661 residential fires were recorded during the first half of this year, an increase of 4% over the same period last year, while 260 non-residential fires recorded, an increase of 8% over the same period last year, while fires in other places recorded were 619, a decrease of 9% compared to last year, and land transportation fires recorded 556 incidents, an increase of 17% over last year, and sea transportation fires recorded only 12 fires.
