Family partner in crime of juveniles driving without obtaining license

Deputy Director-General of Directorate-General of Traffic for Education Affairs, Brigadier-General Sheikh Fawaz Al-Khaled, said that juveniles driving vehicles without obtaining a driving license is a crime punishable by law, Arabic daily Al Jarida reported.

Officer Major Abdullah Buhassan of the Public Relations and Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, said the Education, Planning and Research Departments carried out an extensive traffic campaign in the Al-Qurain Markets area yesterday evening, which resulted in the issuance of 312 various traffic violations, as well as the arrest of 22 juveniles who were caught driving without license.

They have been referred to the General Department of Juvenile Criminal Investigation Prosecution.

Buhassan added during the campaign 12 cars and 3 motorcycles were impounded for violating road safety rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, speaking on the sidelines of a traffic security campaign Al-Khaled added this type of grave violations cannot be tolerated because the family is a major partner in committing such violations.

Al-Khaled told Al-Jarida the campaign which was implemented by the Education, Planning and Research Departments, under field supervision of the Assistant Director-General of the General Department of Traffic for Planning and Research Affairs, Brigadier Khaled Mahmoud, that the supporting security services in the Ministry of Interior in general, and the General Traffic Department in particular continues its strenuous efforts to stop juveniles from driving without obtaining a driver’s licence.

He went on to say which the concerned authorities, whether in the traffic sector or the General Department of Criminal Investigation — Juvenile Police Department, have of late monitored a noticeable increase in juveniles either causing serious traffic accidents or committing serious traffic violations as well.

On the reasons for the sudden field campaigns organized by traffic departments, Al-Khaled said the education, planning, research and technical affairs departments are working in the field to support their colleagues in the Licensing and Traffic Department which is a heavy traffic security burden, so the senior traffic officers decided on the field support.
