Factory tampering with dates of food shut down

Inspectors from the Commercial Control Department of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry acted by shutting down the offices and warehouse of a food factory located in the Sabhan area due to the extension of expiry dates on food products.

Reliable sources informed Al-Rai that “inspection officers found food products within the factory displaying misleading information about their expiry dates, attempting to deceive consumers into believing that the items were safe for consumption, which was far from the truth.”

“During the inspection, it was discovered that factory workers had removed the original expiry date labels from food items obtained from various cooperative societies. They then replaced them with new labels showing fabricated commercial data, including a prolonged expiry date, extending two years beyond the actual expiry.”

The sources continued, “Inspectors confiscated the tools used to carry out these fraudulent activities. This violation and the seized tools unequivocally demonstrate the deliberate intention of the factory officials to deceive consumers and jeopardize their well-being.

A comprehensive report was compiled detailing the seizure of counterfeit goods and tampering tools. Legal procedures are in progress to prosecute those accountable for this incident.”
