Facebook increases duration of Reels to compete with Tik Tok

Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has announced that it has increased the maximum length of short videos (Reels) for its Facebook platform to 90 seconds, in addition to other creative tools.

The “Reels” clips on Facebook were limited to only 60 seconds before the new update, while the “Reels” clips on the Instagram service had their limit raised to 90 seconds months ago, reports Al-Rai daily quoting Al-Arabiya which in turn had quoted from the “Arab Gate for Technical News.”

This step by Meta comes after its most prominent competitor, TikTok, announced that it had raised the limit for video clips to 10 minutes instead of 3 minutes.

Meta has also released more creative tools, such as the new template feature that allows users to create “Reels” clips using popular templates.

The feature, which was launched to Instagram users last year, allows Facebook users to create Reels using the same structure they see in other clips.
