Expo Doha building enters the Guinness Book of Records

The Qatar Public Works Authority announced, Saturday, that the main building of the Doha Horticultural Expo 2023 has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for having the largest green roof in the world, which extends over an area estimated at 4,031 square meters.

Qatar News Agency (QNA) quoted the authority as saying that the new world record is the sixth that the authority has achieved in recent years, as it had previously set five Guinness World Records, including establishing the largest electric bus depot in Lusail and establishing the longest outdoor air-conditioned track in an open park in Umm Al Seneem Park, reports Al-Rai daily.

The authority added that among the records recorded in the encyclopedia are also the provision of the longest continuous bicycle path (Olympic track) and the longest piece of asphalt paved continuously on Al Khor Road, in addition to the participation of the largest number of nationalities in planting trees at the same time.

The sources stated that the projects implemented by the Authority paves the way for many major global events in Qatar, pointing to the projects that were implemented to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition, in addition to the Formula 1 races scheduled to be held in Doha next month.

The sources pointed out that the Public Works Authority completed the construction of the exhibition’s main building and service buildings, as well as preparing the exhibition’s external and internal gardens in preparation for hosting participants in one of the most important gardening exhibitions in the Middle East. When designing the building, consideration was given to showing the highest standards of gardening within a region with a hot climate and presenting the country’s green model in a desert region.

The project was also designed to provide the visitor with an interactive experience with nature and cultural urban construction mixed with touches of the Qatari character, while planting the roof of the main building with (Panastum), (Dahlia), and (Green Grass) plants.

It is noteworthy that the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition will be launched tomorrow under the slogan Green Desert, Better Environment and its activities will continue until March 28 of next year.
