On the 61st anniversary of Kuwait National Day and the 31st anniversary of Kuwait’s Liberation, I would like to congratulate the people of Kuwait and celebrate the soul of this nation.
I would also like to seize this occasion and extend my greetings to His Highness, the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as well as to His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
I have lived in this beautiful country for three years and have experienced first-hand Kuwait’s resilience, generosity and humanitarian spirit.
Kuwait has built a modern nation state, working as a catalyst for positive change in the region and around the world. Through the generosity of the Kuwaiti people and Kuwait’s humanitarian leadership, Kuwait has fed the vulnerable, rescued the displaced and funded vaccinations for those who could not afford it. Kuwait has also brought peace to the region and has been a beacon of hope to many.
I am also pleased to see how the EU-Kuwait relations go from strength to strength. Kuwait and the European Union stand together as friends and allies. We know we are stronger together.
The people of the European Union and the people of Kuwait have each had long and difficult journeys through history and are proud of the accomplishments we have made along the way.
We have both learned in the modern times that security does not come from geography or military power alone. Despite the ordeals of the past, we both experienced the triumph of the human spirit, and we both believe in a world in which freedom and respect for International Law find a home among all nations.
As we look back to how far we have come, I know that the people of Kuwait and the people of Europe share a similar vision for the decades to come: To build a better, safer, more prosperous and more sustainable world, for everyone.
I wish you all a happy National Day and a happy Liberation day, and all the best on your journey towards the New Kuwait.
