Environmental cases doubled 3 times in one year and about 10 in 5 years

An unprecedented record for environmental misdemeanor cases and felonies this year according to the latest official statistics show the number during the first nine months of 2022 (from the beginning of January until the end of September) reached 3,080 cases and the number of criminal cases reached 92.

The figures show that misdemeanor cases have more than tripled compared to last year, during which 961 cases were recorded, while 147 were recorded in 2020, 537 in 2019, 264 in 2018, and 366 in 2017, reports a local Arabic daily.

As for the comparison between 2017 and 2022, the number has increased about 10 times (from 366 to 3080). This brings the total number of environmental misdemeanor cases to 5,355 from 2017 until the end of last September.

The same applies to criminal cases, with 32 recorded in 9 months of 2022, compared to 32 last year, 6 in 2020, 27 in 2019, 10 in 2018, and 34 in 2017.

In comparison between last year and the first nine months of this year, it is clear that the number of cases has tripled, as well as the comparison between 2017 and 2022 (from 34 to 92).
