Employees to supervise elections of cooperatives, unions

Minister of Affairs Mai Al-Baghli has issued a decision to organize the electoral process in cooperative societies and unions, including 26 articles, most notably assigning ministry employees to supervise the work of general assemblies and elections based on a decision issued by the Undersecretary of Affairs or his authorized representative.

The decision, a copy of which has been obtained by a local Arabic daily, specified that the ministry, represented by the Department of Membership Affairs and the Publication of Cooperative Societies and Unions, would hold a preliminary meeting with the candidates contesting the elections and the board of directors of the cooperative or union to inform them of the electoral process mechanism.

The decision set the voting period for three hours for associations whose shareholders do not exceed 5,000, four hours for those whose shareholders do not exceed five thousand, one and no more than ten thousand, and five hours for those whose shareholders exceed ten thousand. The period may be extended as the Ministry deems fit.
