An individual facing allegations of drug abuse fell asleep during the court proceedings, prompting the defense attorney to halt their arguments and withdraw from the case.
The lawyer had appeared before the criminal court to represent the accused, who was charged with drug abuse. When the court began to consider the case and listen to the defense plea, the accused was called upon to confirm his presence and appearance, reports Al-Rai daily.
While presenting the defense’s arguments and pleading for the client’s acquittal from the drug abuse charge, the judge directed the lawyer’s attention to the accused, who was asleep while standing in front of the court.
This compelled the lawyer to discontinue the case, merely submitting their memorandum with a sense of embarrassment before withdrawing from the courtroom.
The court subsequently ruled to transfer the accused to the central prison, adjourning the case for sentencing.
