The Acting Dean of Admissions and Registration at the Kuwait University, Dr. Abdullah Al-Hajri, said he expects the KU to accept between 1,500 and 2,000 students in the second semester, including 365 students whose admissions were postponed in the first semester.
Speaking at a press conference which was organized by the Deanship of Admission and Registration, he said the university currently has about 42,282 male and female students enrolled in the university’s faculties, reports a local Arabic daily.
He stated admissions to the second semester will be immediate if the student fulfills the required conditions and obtains the equivalent average.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Hajri announced the start of the process of submitting applications for admission at the KU electronically for the second semester 2022/2023 for students who meet the admission requirements for Kuwaitis, sons of Kuwaiti women, citizens of GCC countries, and bedoun who are not children of Kuwaiti women, graduates of the unified system, the religious institute, and American schools, as well as graduates of English schools expected to graduate (for graduates of Kuwait schools only), starting from the 30th of this month until the 10th of next January.
Al-Hajri explained that the minimum limits for admission to all colleges of the university for Kuwaiti students and children of Kuwaiti women, applying for the second semester, are the equivalent average for each major, which is calculated in light of the results of academic capabilities tests and the percentage of the secondary certificate, provided the student obtains at least 70% in the secondary certificate for the scientific section and 78% for the literary section.
In response to a question about the problems faced by students, Al-Hajri indicated the formation of an executive committee through an ambitious plan of 6 stages, whereby university students register through prior appointments, with a maximum of 4 courses (12 academic units), except for colleges that includes laboratories, where the number increases to 14 units.
In the second stage, students will be allowed to register in 5 courses, and so on, up to the fifth stage, while the sixth stage is for vacancies, and the student is allowed to register in the first week of the start of the study.
Al-Hajri promised to permanently eliminate some problems, especially after the transfer of Kuwait University to Sabah Al-Salem University City, which provides a large spatial capacity, in addition to raising the number of additional hours for the teaching staff to 6 hours, and explained that some colleges have restored teaching capacity by 100%.
In the file of accepting foreign students, Al-Hajri indicated that the university, after accepting 450 foreign students as part of its plan to improve its classification, is in the process of studying the experience, pointing to the approval of the proposal of the Deanship of Admissions and Registration to accept foreign students at their own expense for the second semester.
In another matter, he said that the Deanship of Admissions and Registration has submitted a proposal to the University Council, with the aim of allowing the student to combine work and study, and the proposal is still in the process of being studied.
He indicated that students living in remote areas, such as Al-Wafra and Sabah Al-Ahmad City, were counted, in preparation for working in a way that allows them to be granted a special status during registration periods at certain times, commensurate with the distance of their homes and university sites.
Solutions for students whose admission is deferred
— American and English high school graduates applying for “online” admission will be approved during the period from January 2 to 12 next.
— Graduates of the unified system and the religious institute apply for enrollment and pay 10 dinars as a fee during the period from the 31st of this month to the 10th of next January
— Those wishing to change their specialization can submit a new application by entering the electronic system in the period from January 10 to 31
— 65% for the scientific section and 72% for the literary section, the minimum percentages for students with special needs who fulfill the admission requirements at the university
Al-Hajri stated that English secondary school students expected to graduate should submit applications to enroll in the university electronically within the specified dates, and then submit their final results to the Deanship of Admission and Registration within two working days from the date of announcing the results, so that their majors can be determined and their registration procedures completed in light of the minimum rates of admission.
