Muhammad Al-Aiban, the Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, has established an investigative committee to address the violations within the General Sports Authority.
This committee will be led by Counselor Dr. Ali Azabih from the Fatwa and Legislation Department and will include Issam Jaafar as the Vice-Chairman, along with members Ahmed Al-Ammar and Nasser Al-Ajmi, with Muhammad Bourisli serving as the Rapporteur. The appointment of the committee members from the “Fatwa and Legislation” department, with one of them assuming the role of chairman, was at the request of Al-Aiban, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The committee is slated to commence its work next week with a mandate to thoroughly examine all violations and suspicions, subsequently taking appropriate legal actions. Informed sources have outlined the committee’s specific responsibilities, which encompass:
— Scrutinizing and auditing all administrative and financial activities and decisions made by the General Sports Authority, with a focus on identifying observed violations.
— Investigating various files, including those related to investments, the utilization of state-owned lands, construction projects, maintenance and facility management, partial professionalism in sports, and sports sabbaticals.
— Reviewing the history of previous hosting arrangements, training camps, and external participations by sports organizations.
— Examining any infringements regarding subsidies and financial support granted to sports bodies, particularly those announced after the issuance of Sports Law No. 87 of 2017 and No. 43. It is noteworthy that the cumulative amounts disbursed to these bodies since 2018 have reached an estimated 25 million dinars up to the point when the disbursement of support ceased.
Additionally, the committee will investigate requests to allocate state lands to these sports organizations.
