DGCA awaits cabinet decision to increase airport capacity for resumption of flights to 6 new destination

Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued a circular to re-operate commercial flights with India, Egypt, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, with adherence to healthy controls, but the dates have yet not been finalized.

The DGCA has denied setting a date for resuming direct commercial flights with India and Egypt. In a press statement on Tuesday, the Director of the DGCA’s Air Transport Department Abdullah Al-Rajhi said that the directorate is still preparing operation plans according to the current seat limits. He added that no permissions were given to any airline to operate direct flights with the six countries with which the cabinet has recently agreed on re-operating direct flights.

Once the operation plans are completed, the DGCA will announce the official date of

resuming flights with these countries, he said. The cabinet gave greenlight to the DGCA for restarting commercial flights with Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka on August 18 after the six countries were restricted in light of COVID-19 restrictions.

It is expected that the application will be submitted within the next two days, Al Anbaa reported

DGCA is awaiting the Cabinet’s response to the request submitted about increasing the operating capacity of Kuwait International Airport for incoming flights to the country, noting that all expectations indicate an increase in operation at the airport to double the current capacity set at about 7,500 passengers per day.

29 airlines are operating at Kuwait International Airport, with operating quotas distributed among them, and it is difficult to distribute the same quota to airlines that will operate on the 6 new destinations.
