The Darwaza Al-Abd Al-Razzaq will finally expected to see light at the end of the tunnel after almost two years of its closure which has caused a lot of inconvenience to the public.
The Minister of Works and Minister of Electricity and Water Eng Ali Al-Mousa has announced the start of work to repair the tunnel and the intersection, saying this intersection is of prime importance in Kuwait because it is in the very center and nerve of economic activity, reports a local Arabic daily.
Al-Mousa said in a press statement during the inauguration of the maintenance that the work on the tunnel intersection will be supervised by the Kuwaitis and is expected to be completed in 90 days.
Director-General of the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport, Ms. Suha Ashkanani, said that the cost of the works is 1.25 million dinars, noting that the radical reforms of the Darwaza tunnel come after obtaining approvals from the regulatory authorities and the support of the Council of Ministers, which had assigned the authority since January 2021 in coordination with the concerned authorities to find solutions to restore this vital intersection.
She pointed out that the authority devoted all efforts, in cooperation with various authorities, to develop appropriate solutions to address the cracks that appeared at the top of the tunnel and repair them.
She pointed out that the treatment and repairs include removing all layers of asphalt, including insulators, injecting expansion joints to prevent any water leakage during the rainy season, as well as changing the supports between the bridges of the tunnel roof and the walls of these bridges, which are urgent and radical solutions carried out by specialized companies according to a specific timetable.
In response to a question about his expectations about the formation of the new government, Al-Mousa said, “I hope that I will be successful in serving the citizens, and I hope that the next stage will be under the title of cooperation between the two authorities to better serve the people.”
