Daily coronavirus Deaths in Kuwait rises, Government cautioned of worsening coronavirus situation ahead of winter

Kuwait has recorded a further 9 coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours, Third highest since the beginning of the pandemic, bringing the death toll to 730.

The global death toll from COVID-19 has crossed one million, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, but the World Health Organization (WHO) says that number is probably an underestimate and the actual toll is likely to be much higher.

Even in Kuwait, the coronavirus has infected 889 people in the country only in the past 24 hours, raising the infection cases to a total of 119,420.

The statistics have raised concerns amongst the decision-makers at the Kuwaiti parliament and they are looking into new ways to enact and curb the outbreak.

Last week, as a part of a slew of measures aimed to contain the spread of the coronavirus, The Council of Ministers approved an amendment for imposing immediate fines on violators of health regulations.

Earlier this month Kuwaiti authorities have warned residents and citizens in the country to refrain from gatherings. Ministry of Interior stated that through its follow-up to prevent the holding of gatherings in all parts of the country, it dealt with a number of wedding and gathering invitations contrary to the decisions of the health authorities in the country, and their owners were summoned before their establishment and the necessary legal measures were taken against them.

In addition to all the legal measures, the government has also warned of worsening the coronavirus situation ahead of winter. The Kuwaiti cabinet, during its weekly meeting on Monday, reiterated the call for citizens and expatriates to take seriously the epidemic in the country in the run-up to winter. The meeting discussed the latest developments of the second wave of the contagion of the illness.

The cabinet members urged all citizens and expatriates in Kuwait to realize the seriousness of the situation as winter approaches and continue committing themselves to the public health precautions and preventive measures, notably social distancing, avoiding crowded areas, and putting on facemasks.
