Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh on Monday warned that the government would not hesitate in taking more drastic measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) when absolutely necessary.
“The option to impose countrywide curfew or extradite some lawless expatriate workers remains to be a final resort in case the health instructions are not heeded,” Al-Saleh, also minister of state for cabinet affairs, said in statements to Kuwait TV.
“The government will never allow the health system of the country to collapse due to non abidance by the instructions of the Ministry of Health. If the citizens and expatriates are careless or fail to take seriously these instructions, the state will definitely have different responses,” he cautioned.
Al-Jabri noted that many expatriates showed honorable abidance but, regrettably, the behavior of some others has to be faced with legal measures. The government shoulders a big responsibility for the COVID19 patients and all patients at large. Therefore, the options of curfew or extradition remain on the table, he explained.
The minister reminded everybody of the need to rely on official sources for news and stay indoors unless it is absolutely necessary to get out, noting that there is no need to worry about the food stock.
Stressing that the world is experiencing a real crisis, he said, “The measures adopted by the government of Kuwait in the combat against COVID-19 were later emulated by many countries of the world.” Echoing the recent statements of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the minister appreciated the selfless efforts made by the frontline staffers of the ministries of health and interior as well as the contributions of volunteers to the combat against the pandemic
