Coop societies urge ministry to hold elections for board members 

The cooperative societies’ boards are still awaiting instructions from the Ministry of Social Affairs regarding allowing the holding of the long-awaited elections to the societies’ board of directors.

Cooperative sources told a local Arabic daily, the cooperative societies are unhappy about the delay caused by the ministry to hold elections since many others have resumed normal activities including campaigning and allowing delegations to travel abroad and allowing people to attend social events while elections to cooperatives board of directors remain suspended without logical justification.

The sources added the cooperatives sector has asked the Ministry of Social Affairs to expedite obtaining approvals from the Ministry of Health, to hold their elections as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Education has shortlisted the finalists for the Abdullah Al-Mutawa Prize for Quran Memorization contest, in which 1,525 teachers and a teacher from the Grand Mosque, actively participated in the presence of the Director-General of Islamic Education, Dr. Muhammad Al-Rashed, under the watchful eyes of the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

This comes following the resumption of activities of after a hiatus of nearly two years due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, says a local Arabic daily.

The head of the Federation of Charity Societies and similar organizations, Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Jarallah, praised those participating in the event which witnessed a great turnout. Al-Jarallah added the return of activities is “another example of cooperation between peoples of all ages.

For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation Youssef Al-Sumaei congratulated the community on the return to normal life and activities, after a long hiatus.

Al-Sumaei stressed the keenness to continue performing this activity in the coming years, with more distinction and better achievement, indicating that the competition is launched with the participation of a large audience from inside and outside Kuwait.
