Communications Authority blocks 2426 violating websites

The Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (Stra) has taken substantial steps to curb the proliferation of illicit online content and regulatory breaches. Sources informed Al-Rai that, in a bid to combat the growing trend of website violations, Stra has blocked a total of 2426 websites since the beginning of this year. These sites were found to contravene existing laws and regulatory guidelines, reported Al-Rai Daily.

In collaboration with relevant governmental bodies, Stra has been diligently identifying websites in violation and implementing necessary actions. The authority has actively enforced the “Regulations regulating procedures for blocking prohibited electronic contents,” aligning with its mission to establish internet content policies and procedures.

During the same period, Stra granted approval for the unblocking of 5 previously restricted websites. The authority’s robust oversight efforts have been supported by multiple channels, with a total of 2,431 reports concerning blocked websites received since the year’s inception.

Reports submitted by government agencies accounted for 68% of the total reports, totaling 1,651. Private parties followed with 688 reports (28.3%), while individuals contributed 92 reports (3.8%).
