Committee seeks approval of rehab centers for people with disabilities

The Technical Committee of the Municipal Council recommended, in its meeting held Tuesday has sought approval of a proposal by a number of members to license rehabilitation centers for people with disabilities in residential areas.

The head of the committee, Dr. Hassan Kamal, after the meeting, said the members recommended approving the Tourist Enterprises Company’s request to develop the Ras Al-Ard Club, which has an area of 35,265 square meters to avoid interference with the Ministry of Defense site next to it, and that its area, after modification, becomes 33,858 square meters, provided that the construction rate is 30 percent, and commercial use 5 percent, which consists of retail stores, restaurants and cafes only, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Kamal indicated that the committee discussed the Cabinet’s decision regarding the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) request to allocate land for an educational and entertainment project west of the Sixth Ring Road in Jahra Governorate, which in 2011 was allocated to the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fisheries Resources (PAAAFR) to establish the Great Zoo, but the Council of Ministers has now decided that the allocation of this site will be transferred to PIFSS to build an integrated project.

Meanwhile, an informed source told the daily that the Ministry of Social Affairs have submitted to the Chairman of the Municipal Council, Abdullah Al-Mahri, a proposal to set up booths in the cooperative societies calling it an important source of income for the coops.

Sources added that the cooperative societies can benefit from the booths and kiosks through small projects which do not need large areas.

The Ministry stressed the importance of cooperative societies in the area of food security by increasing the resources of the associations so that they can fulfill their role in an ideal manner to serve the community.
