Citizens, residents complain of uncalled for hike in prices of commodities

Consumers – citizens and expatriates alike — are bitterly complaining of a new wave of price hikes of various commodities, including medicines and food stuffs in cooperative societies, which confirm that this hike is intentional because of what is happening.

Al-Shahed sources say according to the consumers, whatever is happening in terms of price hike is strange, especially in light of the availability of all commodities, whether food, medicines or others, in addition to the almost normal situation in the country in spite of the high number of Omicron infections and there is no cause for concern, given the global and health assurances that the virus is not dangerous.

The prices of commodities have shot up everywhere — markets, cooperative societies and even medicines which the residents and citizens say the unprecedented wave of high prices especially the food commodities and vegetables, as the rate of increase in the prices of some commodities reached 35 percent during the past three months and the prices of food commodities have witnessed a significant increase on an annual basis in Kuwait, according to official data.

This happens while the Federation of Cooperative Societies ensures that the necessary commodities are provided to citizens at appropriate prices and not to leave them victims of some unscrupulous people and has pledged to organize inspection tours and field visits to cooperative societies to monitor prices a new platform is completed to ensure maximum protection for citizens.

In the midst of all this, the sources said the absence of the role of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is evident because of the failure to monitor the prices which has deteriorated the living conditions of citizens and residents especially at time when hundreds of thousands have no proper source of income.
