Charity societies begin Ramadan work in compliance with ministry directives

Responsible sources in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Community Development said that charity societies have received instructions from the ministry to limit Ramadan projects, (Iftar for the fasting person) to Ramadan baskets, in compliance with health directives to confront the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the meantime, the ministry has allowed charities to begin campaigns to collect donations for the holy month of Ramadan. Local Arabic daily quoting sources added: “The associations actually started launching campaigns to collect donations yesterday to implement projects in Kuwait, in addition to other projects targeting 28 Arab, Asian and African countries.”

Some charity societies have set the value of the Iftar meal to between one and a quarter dinar (1.250 dinars), while Ramadan baskets will be distributed to families inside the country, and their value ranges from 30 to 50 dinars according to the project of each association.

The sources indicated that the Ministry of Social Affairs does not specify the value of the donations, but rather it supervises the licenses and the extent of compliance with the methods of collecting them and distribution.

The external Ramadan projects target the needy and refugees in the following countries — Jordan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Uganda, Benin, Syria, Niger, Sudan, Lebanon, Yemen, Palestine, Turkey, Bangladesh, northern Syria, Indonesia, the Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Cambodia, Tanzania, Thailand, Mauritania, Djibouti, Ghana, Nepal and Tunisia.

In this context, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Charity Societies and Charity Associations Abdulmohsen Al-Kharafi told Al-Qabas that 72 charity societies and organizations are preparing for the upcoming Ramadan season — the month during which people seek reward, and there are those who save their alms for this month.

He added, “Ramadan is characterized by an atmosphere of faith, and many charity projects are concentrated in it, which are implemented according to the wishes and directions of the donors. Every association implements its projects with creativity and artistry.”

As for the localization of charity work, Al-Kharafi indicated that the donation itself from a charitable benefactor is a specific implementation, whether inside or outside Kuwait, and it cannot be done otherwise, pointing out that charity work in Kuwait is characterized by distinguished leadership experiences that preserve Kuwait’s reputation and its humanitarian efforts in all forums.
