Campaign to cancel Kevin Hart’s concert in Cairo

Egyptians launched a campaign entitled #Cancel_Kevin_Hart_concert via Twitter, to demand the cancellation of the “stand-up comedy” show at Cairo Stadium next Wednesday, by American comedian Kevin Hart.

The tweeters circulated previous statements attributed to Kevin, in which he said: “We must teach our children the true history of black Africans when they were Kings in Egypt, and not just the era of slavery that is entrenched in the education system of America. Do you remember the time when we were kings?” These statements are considered by some viewers, including famous personalities as offensive.

While claiming that these statements “falsified Egyptian history,” and accused Hart of “racism,” and that he embraces the ideas of the “Afrocentric” movement, which promotes several theories, including that the origin of Egyptian civilization is only African, and for this reason the tweeters are signing the petition for cancellation of the concert.
