Cabinet set to impose fines for failing to wear masks, appointments for malls and restaurants

The Council of Ministers submitted a draft law to “Fatwa and Legislation” to impose a fine ranging between KD50 to 100 dinars against anyone caught violating health regulations regarding wearing masks, Al Rai daily said, quoting sources.

The fine amount is based on the estimate by the Supreme Committee for Coronavirus Emergencies. The cabinet meeting had also decided to recommend banning spring camps outside homes. The Council of Ministers approved a recommendation for an appointment system for visiting commercial malls, complexes, cafes, restaurants and health clubs to limit gatherings in addition to assigning the Ministry of Interior to deal with and break up gatherings.

The new measures are a consequence of the failure of members of the public to abide by health measures in place to end the coronavirus pandemic. The urgency for citizens and expats to adhere to health guidelines and requirements are over fears of a second coronavirus wave.
