Budget reduction threatens work of ‘disabilities’ medical committees

The work of the various medical committees within the Public Authority for Persons with Disabilities, which is entrusted with diagnosing and determining the type, degree and severity of disability and issuing certificates, is threatened with suspension, which will lead to the disruption of all subsequent procedures for people with special needs and closely related to the work of the committees, due to the Ministry of Finance cutting down on rewards for doctors working in these committees in the authority’s budget for fiscal 2022/2023.

A local Arabic daily has learned from its sources that the Authority recently received a letter from the Ministry of Finance stating that it has reduced the budget allocated for the purchase of prosthetic devices (wheelchairs), and the rewards of doctors working in the committees, in addition to the budget for program maintenance, stressing that the reduced amount is very big making it difficult for the authority to pay the monthly allowances for doctors, which threatens the work of the committees with suspension.
