Blood Donation by the Indonesian Community in Kuwait

Two Indonesian community groups, namely the Diaspora Network in Kuwait (IDN Kuwait) and the Indonesian National Nurses Association – Kuwait Chapter (INNAK), with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia held a blood donation event on Saturday, 14 November 2020. The event was held with generous facilitation of the Blood Bank Shuwaikh Medical Kuwait/Sheikha Salwa Al Sabah Stem Cell and Umbilical Cord Center for the Indonesian community commemorating the 56th Indonesian National Health Day on 12 November 2020.

About 100 Indonesians listed to participate in blood collection procedures held from 09.00 to 15.00 that day, including the Indonesian Ambassador H.E. Tri Tharyat, the Embassy’s staff as well as the staff’s spouses under the Indonesian ladies’ organization. “I am pleased to participate in the event along with other Indonesians. This event reflected sincere contribution of Indonesian Diaspora to help anyone in Kuwait that they consider as the second home,” said Ambassador during his short remarks. Highest appreciation also went to the Blood Bank for allowing the event.

Maintaining blood availability at all times is important, including during the Pandemic, thus triggering the event. On behalf of the organizing committee, the Chairman of IDN Kuwait Mr. Ibnu Munzir thanked all who worked for and participated in the blood donation. Participants of blood donation would help others, particularly those in emergency situation.

The event leader, Ns. Agung Setyadi, confirmed that all participants donating their blood were in good health. The Blood Bank medical team screened the volunteers before blood collection process. About 7 volunteers were declined after carefully considering each health condition and medical history. As a nurse, Ns. Setyadi also shared professional tips for Indonesians to remain healthy, one of which by donating blood.
