Belgium arrests a man for killing his mother and putting parts in a freezer

A man in his mid-thirties in Belgium confessed to killing his mother and placing parts of her body in a refrigerator found in a canal in the east of the country, according to what the Public Prosecution Office announced Friday.

The refrigerator was found with its horrific contents, two arms and two legs, on Tuesday in a canal near the city of Liege, which led to the opening of a murder investigation, reports Al-Rai daily quoting AFP.

Then investigators discovered the rest of the woman’s body in a dumpster that had been dumped into a nearby river.

A tattoo on the woman’s chest helped determine that the body belonged to a woman in her seventies, according to a spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Office in Liege.

Her son, born in 1988, was arrested before dawn on Thursday in a hotel near Brussels airport. Spokeswoman Catherine Colignon added that he was apparently preparing to travel to South Korea.

She added that during his interrogation by the police, the man “confessed” to his act, and the investigating judge ordered him to be charged and detained.

The first elements of the investigation indicate that the mother and son were constantly fighting after he returned to live with her after the Covid pandemic.

The suspect confessed to a person in his surroundings that he had committed the murder, and the latter shared this information with another person who notified the police of it.
