Awareness campaign for the management and disposal of e-waste

The Kuwait Society for the Protection of the Environment organized a campaign called “Introducing Electronic Waste” in Al-Hamra Tower. The campaign aims to raise awareness on dealing with this type of waste and its safe disposal, an Arab daily reported.

The director of programs and activities and a member of the association’s board of directors, Jenan Behzad, said that the campaign falls within the scope of the association’s programs aimed at preserving the environment and spreading environmental awareness among various community groups and sectors.

Behzad pointed out that the campaign, under the auspices of the association in cooperation with HSBC and the administrative sector of Al Hamra Real Estate Company, lasted for a week with various activities. The event included media awareness, where a specialized questionnaire was presented to measure the level of awareness among the participating groups and after analyzing the results on the most important levels of cultural and environmental knowledge, it is then easy to refer to specific recommendations.

She also explained that the campaign included the way of collecting and sorting waste in boxes equipped for those operations, and distributing a set of publications about the campaign to recognize electronic waste, its nature, risks and ways to overcome it, in addition to making the most of the enhanced mobile electrical panels to establish awareness of the campaign.

Moreover, HSBC CEO, Samer Al-Abed, said that it is important to take measures to protect our natural environment and create awareness of the different ways in which the global waste problem can be addressed, through the collection of e-waste, so that people realize that there are responsible ways to dispose of waste, excess electronics that can be recycled and reused without ending up in landfills.

In addition, Chief Executive Officer of the Administrative Sector at Al Hamra Real Estate Company, Abrar Al Habib, said that the participation of Al Hamra Real Estate in the campaign is devoted to functional and societal concepts and values through which it measures the cognitive efficiency among the categories of participants towards ensuring the functional and social environment in their surroundings. He added that these are materialized through environmental behavior that enhances the values of environmental citizenship, adding that the societal environment as a facility has a reciprocal effect on the surrounding natural environment.
