General Department of Residency Affairs will give six months (likely to end in September) for holders of Article 22 (dependent visa), Article 18 (who work in the private sector), and Article 24 (a self-sponsor) to enter the country before re-introducing the six months rule of automatic cancellation of the work permit for those who stayed outside the country for six months and more.
Al-Anba daily quoting an official source a decision will be issued by the Ministry of Interior shortly specifying the timing of the start of the deadline, which the sources said is appropriate because it gives enough time saying there will be no obstacle to the return of expatriate university students to visit their families, as the study stops in June and begins in September.
The source said the renewal of residence online for those outside the country is still in effect as the citizen or resident has the right to renew the residence permit of those on their sponsorship while they are outside the country.
The source stressed this and other expected measures depend on the improvement of the epidemiological situation locally and globally, with the possibility of stopping this measure or other measures if any new mutations of the Coronavirus appear.
It is noteworthy to make a mention that the Ministry of Interior took the same measure last December with regard to domestic workers, as it announced the resumption of the automatic cancellation of the residence permit of domestic workers (Article 20) if they remained outside the country for more than 6 months effective from Dec 1, 2021.
