Amendments to education budget likely to be approved next week

The recent amendments made by the Ministry of Finance to the annual budget of the Ministry of Education, likely to be finally approved early next week, stressing that the current appropriations amount to 2.205 billion dinars, including all sections of the budget.

However, a local Arabic daily said, according to the amendments about 95 percent of the budget is allocated to Chapter One (salaries) at about one billion and 950 million dinars, and includes bonuses for work teams, committees and excellent works, whose value is estimated annually at about 55 million dinars.

The source confirmed that the rest of the budget money of about 255 million dinars is to be distributed among the four sections — Chapter Two (commodity supplies and services), Chapter Three (means of transportation, equipment and supplies), Chapter Four (construction and maintenance) and about 30 million for Chapter Five (expenditures and transfer payments), in addition to Ministry development plan projects.

The sources indicated that the delay in approving the state’s general budgets has pushed the Ministry of Education and other government agencies into the tunnel of delaying the implementation of development projects, as only 6 months remain from the current fiscal year, which is an insufficient period to spend on projects according to the prepared plan.

The source added, “All the contracts that the ministry offered at the beginning of the current academic year are of service nature that are valid for 3 years and will mainly contribute to the stability of the educational process until the 2024-2025 school year
