Al-Razi Hospital attack on administrative staff unfortunate

After repeated incidents of assault on workers in the health system, the latest of which was “a citizen hitting an employee at Al-Razi Hospital with a sharp object and inflicting wounds and leaving the employee with a broken nose. The health officials emphasized that these unfortunate incidents require an urgent action by the state authorities to protect doctors, nurses and staff inside medical facilities.

The officials pointed out the need to take urgent measures to prevent these attacks happening inside the health facilities pointing out that the Ministry of Interior has not failed and is making every effort to secure medical facilities and surrounding areas and has placed patrols in the vicinity of hospitals and health centers, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The security patrols present at the security points inside the hospitals recently caught juveniles and teenagers in possession of sharp objects.

They pointed to the need to spread community awareness of the importance of the role of doctors, nurses and workers in the medical system.

They touched on the assault incident that happened in Al-Razi Hospital, stressing that it is not the first, and it will not be the last, in the Ministry of Health facilities, despite the many statements and appeals made by unions, the Medical Association, and the Nursing Association earlier.

They explained that visitors are required to cooperate with administrative staff and medical and technical staff working in public health centers and hospitals, especially some relatives often force their way to visit patients outside visiting times.

They pointed out the importance of limiting these behaviors and attacks, by raising awareness among the auditors that these teams are there to serve and care for patients, noting that the recurrence of these incidents impedes the provision of service to other patients in the required manner, especially with the occurrence of confusion and the summoning of security men when any quarrel breaks out.

The health sources said what is required is enacting advanced legislation to protect doctors, tightening measures to prevent attacks on medical personnel, educating the community about the importance of the role of doctors and nurses and adopting a mechanism to prevent hospital admissions with sharp instruments

The head of the Ministry of Health’s Workers’ Syndicate, Hussein Al-Azmi, renewed the demand to protect doctors, nurses and all workers in medical facilities from any attacks and to intensify penalties against the aggressors.

He explained that the incident of assaulting the administrative supervisor at Al-Razi Hospital, while he was carrying out his duties with all honesty and sincerity, by a visitor was an unfortunate behavior.

He stated that the assaulted colleague was contacted and reassured of his health, indicating that the union is following up on the progress of the case and is working to take legal measures against the suspect.
