Personnel from the air freight Customs Search and Inspection Department thwarted an attempt to bring in approximately 3 tons of banned tobacco substance hidden inside ‘pallets’ coming from the Emirates, Al-Rai daily reported.
After the Department received a tip-off that a shipment of ‘pallets’ will arrive fom the UAE with tobacco concealed inside, the officers lay in wait and seized 29 cartons containing sachets of chewing tobacco.
The import of ‘chewing tobacco’ is forbidden by law and is considered a drug. The consignment has been confiscated and efforts are underway to take legal action against the importer of pallets.
