The Deputy Chief of the National Guard, retired Lieutenant General Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nawaf, has been nominated to take over the portfolio of the Ministry of Defense, succeeding the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali, who submitted his resignation last Wednesday along with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmed Al-Mansour, whose resignations have been accepted by the higher authorities.
Al-Qabas quoting reliable sources confirmed that the two Sheikhs, Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Lieutenant-General Khaled Saleh Al-Sabah, and Abdullah Al-Nawaf were among the nominations to take over the defense portfolio, but Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nawaf was the closest to take over the portfolio.
With regard to the portfolio of the Ministry of Interior, the sources said the nominations revolve around two names from the ruling family to succeed Mansour, but the matter has not been decided upon.
