African embassies prepare for Africa Day celebrations

African embassies accredited to Kuwait held a media meet on 25 May as part of preparations, and as a prelude to the events that are being planned to celebrate Africa Day on 8 June.

Africa Day is celebrated annually by African people around the world, ito mark the historic anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on 25 May 1963, now known as the African Union (AU), which was established in 2002 to be the successor to the OAU, Since its inception, the organization has aimed to strengthen the continent’s joint work to achieve stability, progress and prosperity, and has always been a symbol of the determination and will of African people that freed themselves from the shackles and domination of the colonial powers.

The Ambassadors of the African Diplomatic Corps expressed their sincere thanks and appreciation to the support of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the development efforts of the African Union.

Africa-Kuwait relations are historic and highlights the importance of the African continent and its diverse potential and capabilities in all areas, it is a continent with resources and opportunities especially in the fields of agriculture, telecommunication, financial sector, infrastructure and tourism, despite its daunting challenges inter alia, the coronavirus pandemic and the vaccines availability efforts.

Kuwait has spared no effort to bolster cooperation with the Government and people of Africa, through loans, grants and technical assistance from the relevant Kuwaiti authorities particularly the Kuwait Fund for Economic Development to finance the projects and programs of the African Continent, this is besides the great prospects for the cooperation with the Kuwaiti private sector to invest in Africa.

The African continent will continue to make vigorous efforts in regard to the integration process among the African countries, to constitute the convenient conditions for maintaining the continent’s peace and security, the African Union has always worked to create, develop and implement the best policies to achieve the goals and aspirations of the continent’s Governments and people.
