‘Acute phase’ of Covid-19 to end in 2022 if 70 world population vaccinated

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said the “acute phase” of the Covid-19 pandemic will end during the current year if 70% of the world’s population is vaccinated.

“We are counting on the end of the acute phase of the pandemic this year, provided that 70% of the world’s population is vaccinated by the middle of the year, around June or July,” he said during a visit to a South African vaccine factory.

Meanwhile, the French health authorities announced the abolition of the mandatory wearing of masks in closed places subject to the (certificate of Covid-19 vaccination), starting from February 28.

The French Ministry of Health said in a statement that the government is heading to ease restrictions related to the (Corona) pandemic in light of the “positive development” of the health situation in the country during the past four weeks.

The statement indicated that masks will remain mandatory in public transport and closed places that are not subject to the (vaccination certificate).

Last January, French Prime Minister Jean Castex had announced the abolition of the mandatory wearing of masks in open places, starting from February 2.
