Head of the Kuwaiti Laundry Federation, Jamal Al-Ansari said that 70 laundries have shut down permanently since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, while 450 laundries have temporarily suspended their activities, Al Anbaa daily reported.
Al-Ansari said to the daily that the laundry sector in Kuwait is considerably large. There are 3000 laundries in Kuwait with around 17 000 to 18 000 people employees. Total salaries of these employees range from KD 3 million to KD 4 million per month, while the value of the rents range from KD 2 million to KD 2.5 million.
He pointed out that the owners of the laundries appealed to the Council of Ministers to allow the time extension, similar to restaurants, provided that they can receive customers outside the shop and deliver clothes to cars, which may reduce the losses suffered by the sector.
