A great proportion of Filipino runaway workers are seeking refuge at the Philippine embassy and this coincides with the month of Ramadan approaching wherein many Kuwaiti families require a workforce, reports Al Qabas.

Sources in the domestic labour sector state that not less than 20 female workers per day seek refuge in the Philippine embassy. They pointed out that most workers are registered under the category of absentees and the Embassy has allocated a hotel near Ibn Khaldoun Street in the Hawalli area to accommodate the increasing number of workers.

The embassy has sent a letter to the labor recruitment offices, asking them to send their spokesperson to its headquarters to pay the corresponding fees within three days, and if failed, the concerned office’s accreditation will be canceled.

To which the owners of their respective organizations responded by saying that they are committed to paying, given that there are financial guarantees registered with Philippine agencies ranging from $50,000 to $100,000.

Further stating that the payment has nothing to do with the warranty period. While groups of struggling Filipina workers continue to leave, and the number of Filipinos who left Kuwait permanently from January to March has reached 638.
