600 flights and 50,000 people unable to travel following airport suspension

Due to the recent decision to suspend the Kuwait airport for 10 days, 600 flights are cancelled and 50,000 people are being prevented from flying to and from the country on their scheduled flights, Al Rai reported. This is costing the airport in air traffic operations which could have consequences.

The daily said, quoting informed sources that the number of flights that operated through Kuwait International Airport in the last period since the airport resumed operations reached 60 flights per day for both departures and arrivals, while the number of travelers grew to about 5,000.

A state of confusion prevailed in the aviation, tourism and travel sectors following the sudden decision, which caused the cancellation of the flight bookings for thousands of citizens and expats, in addition that under the directives, those stranded abroad are also impacted, whether their holidays have ended or are about to end within days.

The head of the Travel and Tourism Bureau, Muhammad Al-Mutairi, estimated the value of bookings canceled after the decision is at about KD10 million dinars in principle, especially for those who planned to go elsewhere for the New Year holiday.
