With the annulment of the decision to ban work permits for non-graduate expatriates 60 years and above by the Fatwa and Legislation Department of the Council of Ministers, statistics — a copy of which has been obtained by Al-Qabas — shows 4,013 expatriates who were above 60 left the country within the first six months following the implementation of the decision by the Public Authority for Manpower which came into effect on Jan 1, 2021.
The Fatwa Department has confirmed that the decision to prevent the renewal of work permits for those who have reached 60 years of age was based on what it called an earlier ‘canceled decision’ and therefore the decision is considered illegal from a legal point of view.
