300,000 residency permits renewed for stranded expats

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the two bodies of Public of Manpower (PAM) and civil information are part of the joint automated system that processed the renewal of more than 300,000 residencies and work permits for expats stranded abroad as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic suspending airport operations, and rising costs of tickets, Al-Qabas daily reported.

Official sources said to the daily that the two bodies, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior, has completed the renewal procedures through the online joint automated systems, in light of the decision to allow the renewal of residencies for those expats abroad who have exceeded six months, with the continuation of health requirements for the “Covid-19” pandemic.

Labor rights

In another context, the sources confirmed that the Public Authority of Manpower (PAM) has begun applying new procedures to business owners regarding guaranteeing workers’ rights and paying financial dues.

The sources indicated that the new regulations will allow workers to register their complaints even when they are outside the country by submitting information through the automated systems, and receiving assigned numbers.

The Employment Protection Sector at PAM is studying thousands of complaints registered against business owners regarding the payment of financial dues and monthly salaries.
