30 pc of population of Arab region is threatened with hunger: FAO

The Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Abdul Hakim Al-Waer said that 30 percent of the population of the Arab region is threatened with hunger, due to the spread of conflict, whether in Syria, Yemen or Sudan, especially since large displacements, leaving land and agriculture, lead to collapse of the food system.

Al-Waer added, during an interview on the “Paper and Pen” program, on “Ten” satellite channel, yesterday evening, that the Corona crisis hit the supply chains greatly, and thus the amount of products decreased worldwide, and the Russian-Ukrainian war also affects safety on the supply chain crisis, reports Al-Rai daily.

He pointed out that there are 800 million people in the world who go to sleep every day without food, pointing to the waste of food in many places, especially in the Arab region, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

He pointed out that the volume of food waste reaches 30 percent, and in the Arab region it reaches 40 percent, especially in Egypt and the Gulf region, and some other countries.
