30 international firms to vie for road maintenance contracts

The Ministry of Public Works has announced 30 international companies are invited to submit bids — 5 from Japan, 3 from Korea, 4 Chinese, 3 French, 6 Turkish, a German company, an American company, 6 Indian companies and another from Hungary – for the maintenance of road in the six governorates of the country in addition to the maintenance of the Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge, and road repair works in the northern, central and southern regions.

In a related context, the Public Works Authority announced the start of the appointment of conformity assessment bodies, local and international “neutral laboratories”, wishing to work with the Ministry on contracts for the implementation and maintenance of roads, to carry out examination and calibration work, or to take samples, reports Al-Jarida daily.

By taking this step, the Ministry aims to achieve more transparency and provide an opportunity for neutral laboratories to participate in the Ministry’s projects, by verifying the extent to which products, services or processes conform to technical regulations and pre-defined specifications, stressing the importance of these laboratories being registered with the Public Authority for Industry.
